Karbala Turbah Prayer Clay Tablets or (سجدہ گاہ) Sajde-gah | Set of 2 | Handmade in Iraq

$12

turbah ( تربة'soil'), or mohr (مهر'seal'), also known as khāk-e shefā ( خاکِ شِفا) and  sejde gāh (سجدہ گاہ) is a small prayer clay tablet used by Shia Muslims for sujood during salat.

In the Twelver Shia school of Islam, prostration on earth or natural materials is recommended. This is based on Islamic narrations showing that the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and the early Muslims would prostrate with their foreheads placed upon the ground, soil, or other natural surfaces.

According to Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه), he said:

“I saw the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) prostrating in mud and water, and I saw the traces of mud on his forehead.”

This narration highlights the practice of prostrating directly on the earth. In the absence of soil, natural plant-based materials such as leaves, reed mats, or paper may also be used.

The most honoured and favoured soil for sujood is the soil of Karbala, the sacred land associated with the martyrdom of Imam Hussain ibn Ali (عليه السلام). For this reason, many Shia Muslims choose to pray on a turbah made from Karbala clay.

These turbah tablets are made from 100% Karbala soil and are handmade in Iraq. Each set includes 2 turbah tablets, carefully wrapped in paper from the source.
